Freia vom Fuchsberg
VJP 70
HZP 239 Hegewald 2008
Coat 11 Conformation 11

Freia is our most recent addition arriving from Germany a few days before Christmas. For those of us who are married I assume you have learned the "Golden Rule" ! It is not WHAT you purchase but WHEN. The Christmas holiday season is one of those MAGIC times when a smile and stern look is sufficient when an expensive dog mysteriously arrives from Germany. For those sportsmen who violate the "GOLDEN RULE" we are not interested in ,why,  you "cannot come out and play" anytime in the near future.

Freia continues our standard of balancing top performance with near perfect coat and conformation as seen in her 11/11 ratings. She is both gifted and talented as revealed in her excellent test scores in all categories of field, forest and water work. Probably, her high intelligence level may be her greatest gift as she quickly comprehends multiple tasks and applies them without hesitation. This was demonstrated when she finished all her training and testing at approximately ONE year of age.

She loves to work and becomes rather impatient when she is not included in every situation. I thought her greatest passion was the hunt for which she was selectively bred. However, it became obvious on Christmas day when she saw children open presents and play with trains, trucks and Barbie dolls a new passion was born. Faster than Santa's wink she was retreiving balls, opening presents, and watching the train ride the tracks before slapping it with her big foot, causing a train wreck. She had a great time playing with children and ignoring adults. As with all things there is a time when the end must come ,and Freia searched daily for the children who had now returned to school. She lay with her head on my foot as I sat in the office and seemed to have a touch sadness about her. I told her not to fret because many birthdays and childrens parties were coming soon  but until then "Freia get your leash its time for the hunt"

Hera
VJP 73
HZP 193
VGP 1.343

We have anxiously waited two years for Hera to arrive from Germany. We generally organize our breedings in Germany and leave our dogs in the hands of our trusted friends for training and breeding certification. We are no different from our many customers who wait impatiently for their new pup or trained dog to arrive. Hera will bring with her our 0-111(67th) litter safely tucked away inside her classical frame. Our 0-3 babies sired by Dux v.d. Charlottenquelle will arrive close to Christmas time and what a great holiday season it will be. My wife often comments that after more than 20 years of importing, breeding and training these dogs how can I continue to be so excited about getting another one. What makes her think I am excited? Maybe the restless floor pacing or frequent calendar looks or the daily picking of puppy names is the reason. Who knows what wives think, they always know everything.
Hera is a product of a long awaited breeding between Brenda and Gino. Brenda (listed on our dams page) is our highly touted breeding female who produces pups with excellent coat/conformation and performance records. This year after all the results have been tallied from performance testing and coat/conformation ratings in Germany, this litter is considered by many to be one of the outstanding litters.
Hera excelled in every performance category and was awarded scores of 12 at the HZP and 4h (honors) in the VGP (Masters test) in water work along with a host of other accomplishments. She now sits in my office looking rather dismayed as her prominent athletic build and graceful fluid motion has turned into a slow frustrating “Waddle”. Her trim “school girl figure” now bulges with puppies. Her mother Brenda, who resides next door, listens intently and turns her head side to side waiting for the those little squeaks announcing her grand children are here. I know from experience, Brenda will continually aggravate and irritate everyone  until she can get access to those babies.

Manda v. Helmighaus
VJP 72
HZP 180
VGP I/330

Isn't she a beauty. Mandy could be a model on the front of a ladies magazine or a socialite at an  uptown party. She could very well be the reason Barry Manilow wrote his hit song "OH MANDY" in 1994. Mandy is so sweet and accommodating she loves everyone and everything. I have never seen another dog or person not captivated by her very presence. Everyone wants to hug her, she just has that "something" about her and she wants to love you in return. As usual each of our dogs have their little "quirks" and during our daily walks at Kervinshof she always stops to admire and nose the flowers ever so gently. She often brings me (very softly) baby rabbits or little birds from their nest as if she is the new mother. Mandy looks rather sad when I tell her to leave them alone as I put them back in the nest. However, she quickly recovers and bounds off for new horizons.

Mandy!! We are hunting now! Get serious and get serious she does. It is all business now working fields and water producing game, pointing, retrieving under all weather conditions and terrain features. But at times I see her sitting in the duck blind looking....sometimes pawing... the ducks she has retrieved and stacked in the corner, wondering if they are OK. "OH MANDY"

Mirka v. Venusberg
VJP   72
HZP   237 9th place Hegewald
Coat 11 Conformation 11

Mirka v. Venusberg is our new black roan high performance breeding female with excellent coat and conformation ratings. Mirka is  every bit the lady but shirks any idea of modesty. She loves to flirt and show her stuff as she is obviously very pretty and knows it. Mirka was the 9th place dog in the prestigious German Hegewald this year in a field of approximately 240 selectively bred and trained Drahthaars. She is an extremely intelligent breeding female and may be too smart for her own good. Mirka is going to read your every intention very quickly and you must stay ahead of her or she will antagonize you and loves to do so. At times she will give you thatdumb blonde look when she knows very well what command has been given.

Mirka's emotional stability and good looks is quickly noticed by all who see her. Her confidence is overwhelming as seen when she arrived at the Dallas airport after her long trip from Germany. The very moment I brought her out of her air kennel she acted as if she owned me, the airport, and its employees. I am sure this confidence and performance will transfer to her upcoming litters as she will soon be bred to Erick v. Erthal. We look forward to seeing that litter having a great time in the fields and streams around Kervinshof.

Brenda v.

VGP I/336

Brenda is quiet a lady to look at! For those familiar with some of  the most highly recognized breeding dams and sires in Germany she is the sister to Brisco v. Erthal. We thought it necessary to change her name to Brenda rather than keeping her official name “Blossom”. This resulted in a round of applause from everyone.  Believe me when I say she does not look like a dainty blossom ….even if you stretch your imagination to its very limits. Brenda’s strong physical conformation and athleticism would have most observers wishing they had a stud dog with such outstanding attributes. She reminds me of the legendary

“Amazon Women” who were considered to be very beautiful and highly intelligent but had the physical attributes of a muscular football player.  Her performance matches her attributes as she scored very high in every versatile hunting dog category. But be advised if you are not serious about what you would like her to retrieve …..it is best you do not send her.

Her greatest passion is cuddling little children and when she decides to cuddle them there is absolutely nothing they can do about it. Children that visit us frequently love play in our big sand pile. They spend hours building sand castles, military installations, roads and little houses.  Brenda also loves to play sand castles and she will FLOP her dainty torso right in the middle of the newly constructed sand city and wonder why everyone is jumping up and down and screaming! All the children now plead with me and promise …..they will be nice and not cause any problems for anyone if I PROMISE “NOT” to let Brenda out of her kennel.

Kaja was recently imported from Germany and was bred to Castor vom Brundlfeld before arriving at vom Kervinshof. Her performance is typical of of our breeding females as she excels in nose, upland game, waterfowl and obedience. Kaja, like our other females, is a very responsible mother taking great care of each newborn until they are weaned. At vom Kervinshof she takes them on field trips teaching them to be confident around water, fields, forrest and to use their little noses at an early age. However, she makes no secret about expresseing her irritation when they bound off chasing butterflies, grasshoppers, and frogs rather than looking for Mr. Bob White whistling in the meadow. She is also a product of the prestigious Hegewald test and a Prize 1 VGP tested female. Kaja possesses that superb temperament required in all of our dogs and is perfectly at home with children, other dogs, and any private or public event she is invited to. Her pointing and retrieving skills are perfect and her manners superb. Kaja is a true lady and very modest. In fact, she is so modest she will not allow you to see her”Tinkle”. It is rather amusing to watch her in the field when it is time to “Tinkle”, she will find a plant or bush and get behind it thinking she is well hidden from public view. When “Tinkle Time” is over she will look around to see if anyone has been spying on her before appearing in public again. She is so “quiet” and “Lady Like” in the automobile, kennel or house you would never know she is there until you feel that cold wet nose on your hand or cheek. Her favorite pass time is laying on the floor between our grandchildren watching “Sponge Bob”. Her English is not very good at the moment, but she seems to enjoy all the laughing and fun associated with kids and cartoons.

Gritt

Gritt is a product of superior ancestry. She is a mix of Wupperaue and Liethermoor lines which are legendary in producing the complete package of dogs touting handsome elegant features with outstanding performance and perfect coat/conformation. What more can you ask for? Gritt has no reservations regarding the people she chooses to associate with and if you are not on her prominent list you will certainly be ignored. Unfortunately, with all the effort involved in bringing her from Germany, making arrangements for her breeding and providing for her new litter of puppies she has chosen to ignore ME! She has selected my daughter as her new friend and companion. When I look her way, call her name and try to entice her, she simply puts her uppity little nose in the air and looks the other way signifying my lack of importance. Sometimes I feel like slapping her especially when she has that arrogant little twinkle in her eye. Big Deal, I still have my other girls that love me for who I am, the one who feeds and takes them hunting.

Bessi

Bessi is a romanticist and this stems from her Italian background as she originated from the del Zeffiro kennel in Italy. This line of dog is noted for top performance and great coat and conformation rating with many dogs evaluated as excellent in both categories. Bessi is strong in character, high intelligence and absolutely dutiful in everything she is asked to do. Her nose is excellent and is used with superb results in upland game and waterfowl hunting. She is obedient and works extremely hard to please you and takes great pride in completing whatever she is asked to do. Bessi is a very attractive female with a classic head that shows nobility and intelligence. Unfortunately she is a flower girl and when not on a mission she playfully examines flowers in the field and at times will pluck a few that may NOT be in the field. She is gorgeous and she knows it and as with most beautiful ladies she is a bit prissy sometimes snotty and forever loving.

Nicky

Nicky II is a sweetheart. She loves everyone and is such a big flirt. And much to my dismay Nicky has never met a stranger. She would gladly go with anyone who gave her a smile and a gummy bear. But in all probability a smile would be sufficient. Nicky is loaded with natural ability as shown by her 77 points in the VJP Natural Ability Test. A top rated score of 11 in every category from Nose to Pointing. She carried those credentials on to the prestigious German Hegewald test and was listed as one of the top dogs in that test. From the Hegewald she moves to the VGP Masters test a few weeks later and makes a Prize I/322 points. She made all of these accomplishments before she turns two years old. However, this should come as no surprise because Nicky was sired by Brisko v. Erthal one of the top producing sires in Germany. Nicky will become a mother this spring and I am quite sure she will pass that performance and personality on to her babies.

holly

Holly is a very attractive black roan female certified for breeding from the highly respected Bockenhagen kennel owned by Antonius Kohues. Holly was added to our kennel for strong coat/conformation genetics. She possesses the ability to produce puppies with good size, excellent conformation, thick flat lying coats and nice beards. Holly had very good scores in every test category from the field, water, and forest. She is a product of the pretigious German Hegewald Test in Germany like the majority of dogs in our kennel. These are traits we deem important in our breeding program. She has the classic features of a true Drahthaar and cannot be confused with a German Shorthair or other breeds. These coat and conformation qualities are essential to performance. Coupled with her strong field and water performance she makes a very attractive female for breeding. Holly's favorite pass time is eating... if allowed she would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with several snacks in between. When she is turned out with the other females for daily exercise Holly's first stop will be to check all the feeders in the kennel. She will examine every kennel run hoping to find one little tidbit to eat. If she is not successful at the feeders she is the picture of disappointment and showing her frustration at not finding one little morsel of food she will run and play with all her girlfriends. However, she is the first one returning to her kennel with great expectations that I have filled her food bowl first and if her girlfriends tarry to long she may look into their bowls also.
