grandstand at expoProfessor of Criminal Justice at Cameron University, professional dog breeder and trainer specializing in German working dogs, and current Chairman of JGV-USA. Formally trained dogs for all phases of police work to include Schutzhunds. Certified by the German Jagdgebrauchshund as a versatile hunting dog judge. Owner of the vom Kervinshof Kennel, a German authorized Drahthaar breeding kennel since 1984. I have owned, trained and judged most sporting breeds and conducted numerous seminars and training clinics throughout the United States. This year vom Kervinshof will produce our 52nd litter of Authentic German Drahthaars. A distinguished 20 year record of selective breeding, testing and training versatile hunting dogs. We appreciate the multitude of fine customers andthe many friends we have made over the last 20 years. As an avid hunter, I take every opportunity to be in the field with our dogs. It is mid-summer now, and we are heavy into training young dogs for the upcoming hunting seasons and field and water test beginning in September. Our older dogs are restless, waiting impatiently for that first cool front from the north signaling the beginning of our favorite time of year. Our new kennel facility is located on Lake Ellsworth (smack dab) in the center of our prime hunting grounds. Our goose and duck blinds are less than two miles from the kennel. The dove, quail and turkey populations are looking very good this year, and the deer and wild Boar hunting isexcellent on the Red River. This is great country for versatile hunting dogs to excel in. They have a distinct advantage over the specialty dog. When upland game or waterfowl populations are low many specialty dogs have little to occupy their time, the specific game they are bred to hunt is not available and his hunting season is probably over.

grandstand at expoSeptember is tune up time for our dogs with dove and the early teal and goose seasons. The kennel has waited anxiously for this time to arrive. Our kennel is calm and quiet! You will not hear the incessant barking of dogs typically heard from most kennels. Our dogs are well-mannered attributed to their excellent breeding, training and emotional stability. However, it is Ilka and Greif that maintain a vigilant eye for the early fall flights of waterfowl over the kennel. Ilka will hear the whistle of wings and the honking of Canada geese long before she can see them as they head toward Lake Ellsworth. When Ilka and Greif begin to bark, it is their way of reminding me that this special time we have been waiting for is here. They areplacing me on notice that all of our gear should be organized and ready for the hunt. It is sometimes very obvious they cannot tolerate my lack of German Order.

When hunting season is in full swing it is waterfowl blinds and decoys in the morning, pheasant and quail hunting in the afternoon, and maybe pigs or deer in the evening. Most of our females will be having their litters, producing your next hunting companion. It is a very busy time of year at vom Kervinshof and this year our grandsons and granddaughter will join us at the hunting camp, keeping the family hunting tradition in tact. It is Mother Nature and our Creator that will teach them what is most important rather than today's violent video gamesand X- rated television programs. It was in the hunting blind watching a new day come alive orsitting by the campfire holding a puppy, our son and daughter learned some of their most important personal values.
